Utilized by modern pointillists, pixels could be defined as those minuscule points that, when united, unveil a complete image. For Kandinsky and his lyrical abstraction, pixels dance on the screen, conjuring emotions without the need for words. Every click of the mouse is a digital brushstroke, an act of creation that binds artists like Chuck Close and his hyperrealism with the precision of a surgeon. Each pixel is a blank canvas, awaiting infusion with a creator’s unique vision. And much like Salvador Dalí painted melting clocks on the canvas of time, pixels enable artists to mold reality and merge the improbable into a single image.
Inspired by these particles of light and color, the exhibition redefines the concept of artistic grandeur by demonstrating that creativity is not measured in square meters but in the depth and ingenuity that can be encapsulated in a confined space. Within the canvas, each pixel is a world of its own, and each artwork is a window into a microcosm of meanings and signifiers. The proposal pays homage to the diversity of artistic expressions, where figuration, abstraction, geometry, surrealism, and objet d’art converge into small masterpieces.
Within the narrative journey, the use of pixels in figuration translates into meticulous details that breathe life into portraits and realistic scenes, while in abstraction, they become basic building blocks immersing us in a world of indeterminate emotions and concepts. Geometric artists, on the other hand, embrace the concept as a tool to create precise patterns and perfect symmetries in artworks with an ordered and balanced aesthetic. In a surreal twist, these creators can employ pixel manipulation to distort reality and craft works that defy visual logic, materializing dreamlike and bewildering scenarios, leading the viewer to unexpected realms. Each of these approaches allows artists to explore the relationship between the small and the large, the detailed and the abstract, the tangible and the digital in their works. Additionally, the creation of objects introduces a tactile dimension to the exhibition, where art becomes something we can hold and feel, merging aesthetics with functionality in diminutive formats.
The small dimensions embraced by this group of artists, from concept to physical format, do not limit the depth and richness of these creations; instead, they intensify them, inviting us to draw near and discover details that often go unnoticed in larger works. In this regard, Galleria Azur New York’s new proposal serves as a reminder that the greatness of art is not always measured in square meters but in the imagination, skill, and passion of the artists. These small wonders show us that creativity knows no bounds, and within each pixel, we can find a universe of meaning and beauty.
