Abstraction meets figuration, and the mythological meets the modern in this breathtaking exhibit. With references to the ancient Greek myth of Theseus and Ariadne, John Bacon’s work distorts and fragments the figurative elements in a way that is simultaneously cubist and art deco. Like Ariadne’s thread, Bacon’s use of the line creates a pictorial journey through a labyrinth of abstraction and figuration, resulting in compositions that are at once playful and profound.
Rejecting naturalism in favor of anarchic exuberance, Bacon’s figures simultaneously represent from different angles, devaluing the theme and rendering the question of the abstract irrelevant. The result is a selection of works that digests an inner state, allowing the imagination to create forms that reflect deep, primitive roots of the human psyche.
As we navigate a world saturated with anxieties and reflections, Bacon’s work offers a metaphorical journey through the labyrinths of thought and free imagination. This solo show at Galería Azur Miami is not to be missed, as it represents a turn in the artist’s work, and investigates the contrast between support and line, loaded with allegories that challenge and inspire.
