Protagona 2

The painting depicts the mythological figure of a firstborn goddess. According to Aristophanes, the ancient Greek poet, Nyx (Night) is the primordial deity. Here, she is surrounded by an ornamental frame depicting four eggs and colors representing five elements. I applied old-masterly techniques as developed in oil paintings of the Renaissance. An underpainting was furnished on a gessoed wooden board. Then the painting was “built” using multiple washes, layers of color, and a finishing varnish.
