BIOGRAPHY

Sofía Ocampo Jaramillo was born in the city of Pereira, Colombia, in 1976. During her childhood and adolescence, she attended the Liceo Francés de Pereira school, where she completed her primary and secondary education.

In 1994, she began studying architecture at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and successfully graduated in the year 2000. Her passion for architecture led her to dedicate several years of study and effort to this career.

During her youth, between 1993 and 1994, she had the opportunity to spend a year on exchange with A.F.S. in the city of San Francisco, where she not only became familiar with North American culture but also took the opportunity to learn the English language. Additionally, she acquired her knowledge of the French language during her school years.

Sofía grew up in Colombia during a period marked by the violence of the drug trade, a reality that undoubtedly influenced her outlook on life and how she perceives the world around her. Over the years, she has witnessed the persistent struggle against violence and guerrilla warfare in her country, factors that have shaped her character and her view of life.

Currently, she is married to Luis Felipe Morales, and together they have two daughters: Aurora Morales and Florentina Morales, aged 16 and 14 respectively. Sofía strives to raise her daughters in an environment that fosters peace and understanding, despite the challenges that the Colombian context may present.

STATEMENT

In my works, I find a bridge between architecture and colorist art. I delve into the world of shapes, lines, and spaces, but it is color that becomes my primary tool of expression. From this perspective, I see architecture as more than physical structures; it is a manifestation of the energy and vibrations that surround us.

In “A Journey Through Color and Energy,” I seek to convey the idea that despite our smallness in the vast universe, our vibrations and energies are an integral part of existence. As human beings, we are immersed in an ocean of colors and sensations, and it is through color that I seek to capture and transmit that energy.

The forms in my works are fluid, organic, like waves expanding and contracting in constant movement. The vibrant and bold colors are the vehicle through which I communicate the joy and happiness we seek as human beings. Amidst the complexities and anxieties of life, these works are a reflection of how color can be a balm for the soul.

The human scale becomes relative in this context. Though we are small in the vast universe, our emotions and energies are vast and powerful. When observing my works, I invite the viewer to contemplate with joy what surrounds us, to immerse themselves in the world of color, and allow the energy of color to fill us with happiness.

In “A Journey Through Color and Energy,” color is not just an aesthetic element; it is a means to combat the anxieties and worries of life. It is an invitation to vibrate in harmony with the universe, recognizing our tiny scale but embracing the immensity of the emotions and energies that connect us as human beings.
