BIOGRAPHY

Julia Clutterbuck was born in Buenos Aires, city where she currently resides. Trained as an architect, she participated in PAC Project Artists Program, and trained in different art classes with Fabián Burgos, Débora Pruden, Pablo Sinaí, Federico De La Puente and Carolina Baulo. She also attended the workshops of Andrés Sobrino and Sebastión Bruno, and studied painting with Juan Astica and Juan Doffo.
She participated in several group exhibitions, among which “How to capture a flash” at the Municipal Art Museum “Dr. Urbano Poggi”, in Rafaela, “Taxonomy, an exercise in action and question” in Galería RAF, “Verticalisms in Fall”, in Galería El Más Acá, among others.
In 2022 she inaugurates Espacio Acoyte, a place where he develops her practice, but where in parallel and as a way of building a place for experimentation, training, networking and, above all, cooperation between peers, micro-residencies, clinical consultations and exhibitions are carried out.

STATEMENT

We live in a constant escape where technology advances. The intermittency of the images, the overload of information, the ubiquity and the speed of time passed, make me wonder about permanence.

My work starts from painting as a state of question and procedure, not from the formal or academic, but rather I stop in time, and its consequent transformation of the images. It was born from demolition and is nourished by its poetics.

I develop different methods that allow me to remove the painting from its support, to continue it in other places. It is precisely in that action where I find durability.

The transition between the static and permanent, the changing and the dynamic is where I find the greatest tension and interest, whether due to the detachment of the material or the superpositions that I discover again and again, moving the painting from one place to another, in synthetic materials or digital.

I understand that this recurring instability has to do with how we connect today with images, with their (evaporation) transience and with the intermittent and endless state of information and immediacy.
