BIOGRAPHY
Ellen Fishwick McLean studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Art Students League in New York and the School of Visual Arts. She has a degree in Studio Art from Drew University. Early in her career, Ellie worked as a graphic artist at TIME Magazine. While working there, she designed issues of The Time Education Program, logos and award winning advertisements. She’s proud to have designed the logo for Nixon and Kissinger’s first trip to China. She earned the Society of Illustrators Learning Materials Award and her work was published in PRINT Magazine. She also designed artwork for schools and universities including The Peck School and The Princeton Class of 1969.
Ellie has taught art from elementary school through high school.
Mid career Ellie pursued her love of portrait painting. Her work, along with other subjects, can be seen on Facebook, Instagram and the internet at elliemcleanportraits.com. She’s exhibited at galleries and other venues from Florida to New York.

Ellie grew up in a college town in rural Virginia. Her father was a professor and took Ellie and her siblings on many trips abroad; she also lived in Denmark, Germany and Italy. There she was influenced by the rich cultures from these countries and learned about art and architecture first at an early age.
STATEMENT
I paint children of all ages but feel that the best ages to paint a child are from age 5 through puberty. I recommend to parents that I add something personal to the picture which will capture an expression, place, or unique interest the child may have.
