BIOGRAPHY
I started oil painting three years ago when my wife signed me up for oil painting lessons for my thirty-eighth birthday. Dissatisfied with the rigidity and influence of my instructor’s approach to art, I stopped taking lessons and have been teaching myself ever since. I paint nearly every night, constantly exploring the medium and improving my craft. Each painting has taught me something new and I have used this approach to create my style and approach to art, purposefully avoiding outside influences to discover my unique voice.

STATEMENT
My art is evolving into a more surrealist interpretation of the world around me. I am constantly exploring new approaches and techniques. Each composition’s approach and technique is influenced by the idea I am communicating and the subject’s characteristics. I am committed to creating surrealist scenes of familiar landmarks to stimulate people’s imaginations, challenge the parameters of possibility, and concisely depict robust memories to encourage viewers to create meaningful experiences. Additionally, I am becoming increasingly interested in painting elements of contemporary culture and using my work as artifacts of modern society. As a social studies educator in America’s most culturally diverse city, I enjoy the challenge of pairing dissimilar elements into a cohesive and harmonious composition to reflect my experiences at school and share the value of these experiences with the rest of the world.
