Fantasy is tinged with romanticism – an escape method from routine, anodyne life, or a complex ritual. The dream state becomes some kind of psychiatric drug, in which the dreamer experiences a fantastic and idyllic world, he goes through the interior of his subjectivity in a surrounding sensation, while perception is disrupted and increases triggering the material dispossession of the body, and causing the mind and spirit to travel to the immateriality – to the time and space of reverie.
The dream state works as a magnet and, at the same time, as a centripetal force, capable of gathering a constellation of images, thoughts, and ideas, a battle between being and what should be. It investigates the human historical memory, the origin of forms, becoming a mythical experience capable of transfiguring beings. Disobedient abstractions, plots, textures, figures, and dream forms become supports for narratives, staging a vast and rich artistic production.
And just as in the book “Les Rêveries du promeneur solitaire” – an unfinished work by Jean- Jacques Rousseau, written between 1776 and 1778, – the Swiss philosopher assures «By wanting to remember so many sweet reveries, instead of writing them I fell back into them”, Galeria Azur’s 2023 first exhibition, reveals a strange half-sleep that contemporary artists use, hiding the invisible threads that mobilize it, to present the artistic fact as a pure form, as a search for movement and spatiality, as a utopia that manifests, as a critical apparatus that denatures the exhibition devices shaped by art history.
