STATEMENT

Art critiques about Tito Monzon – summary

• SILVIO DE FERRARI LERCARI.

I could very well offer the beginning of the commentary to two innovators, experimenters or students of new plastic formulas. One of them (I presume from Lima): Alberto Casari, who resides in Florencia and the other, Tito Monzón from Trujillo. Aside from theories and names that can confuse the viewer. Both artists have as a common denominator, stripping painting of conventional molds to provide it with new contents and materials… (Diary “El Expreso”).

• Since his appearance in Lima, Monzón has been a chapter apart, both for his work and for his calm and silent personality. An artist of great interiority, he has known how to manage his work with the most extreme care without exhibitionism or leaps… (Diary “El Expreso”)

• JORGE BERNUY

…Tito Monzón, is indisputably a gifted artist. He has built a work whose value lies mainly in his references, associations and vital approaches. Without resorting to the hasty technical originality of the plastic avant-garde. Monzón transmits his painting with a moving and personal language, certainly expressive of his vision of his world, of the lucid vision of his art. Monzón’s work brings together the main characteristics of the new art of Peru… (Diary “El Lundero”)

• ELIDA ROMAN

Tito Monzón, one of the most interesting and gifted artists of his generation, reappears with a series of recent paintings, in gallery forum, his is a special and striking case in local art. ..

He practices a kind of self-imposed seclusion that limits his public presentations to occasional exhibitions or participation in national and international events to which he is invited or selected… (Diary “El Comercio”) Tito Monzón … made a new personal presentation in Lima, allowing us to ratify

an internal impression: he is one of the most solid figures of the last generations of Peruvian painters.

His work is of such seriousness, depth and dedication that it makes us face the fact of a new “Visual Reality”, if such a term could be coined. (Newspaper “El Comercio”)

• LUIS LAMA

In Tito Monzón, we have one of the most representative artists of his generation. And this is a merit that forces us to look at Trujillo every time we have to think about the new art of Peru. It happens that his investigations are so personal, so foreign to this ancient Lima movement… That finding such a severe work allows us to reflect on the art of our entire country. (Caretas Magazine)

• MILAGROS BELLO (Miami)

ART MIAMI was presented at the Convention Center from January 4 to 8 with more than 100 galleries and more than 3,000 artists. In addition to universal masters, the latest generations of Latin American artists stood out who confirmed a solid presence in a wide variety of proposals… they should be noted: The fabulous work of Julio Galán (Mexico), Lastelas Velazquianas by Tito Monzón (Galería Forum, Peru) …ART MIAMI, 2002

• WALDEMAR SOMMER (Chile)

“News in Peruvian Art”

… Tito Monzón’s mixed technique paintings are completely convincing. They give us a sad maiden, with an enigmatic attitude and in the midst of the intimacy of undefined spaces, the aura of small roses that surrounds her underlines the mystery of the situation. (“The Mercury”).
