BIOGRAPHY

Sam Dobrow is a fine art photographer whose work has been exhibited worldwide, enchanting audiences from New York City to Paris, Venice, and beyond. His art is marked by a dynamic duality: a meticulous commitment to technical precision combined with imaginative surrealistic exploration. Utilizing digital tools such as Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and especially the Liquify filter, Dobrow transforms photographs into visionary fantasy worlds, merging photographic realism with artistic abstraction.

Among his significant bodies of work is the Oceana Portfolio within the Surreality Collection, featuring images that challenge viewers to reconsider the boundaries of reality. His artistry extends beyond photography into the design and production of fine art books, which present surreal imagery alongside thoughtful narratives. Notable publications include “Infrared Worlds,” published in August 2025, which has garnered substantial recognition including multiple awards and solo magazine features. This work channels mysterious messages of ancient travelers and lost civilizations, encouraging reflection on humanity’s future and the planet. Another significant project, his photo-novella, “I, Mirus – The Musings of a Multiverse Sentient,” wraps a science fiction narrative and romance around a large portfolio of his surreal photography; offering deep perspectives into his creative mind.

His work is included in the permanent collection of the Yukyung Art Museum, South Korea, and has been showcased at prominent galleries and events such as the Wirtz Gallery in South Miami, The Louvre, Miami Art Week Gallery, and the New York Art Expo. Dobrow has earned numerous accolades, including multiple Black & White Spider Awards, Epson International Pano Awards, and the Biafarin Unrestricted Cash Grant. He has served multiple times as a judge for photography and digital art at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival.

Through his camera, Sam seeks to reveal enhanced realities filled with beauty and infinite possibilities, inviting the viewer to engage with deeper questions about the world and humanity’s place in the cosmos.

STATEMENT

As a photographer, I feel a profound connection to the world, using my camera as both an explorer and a storyteller.

In high school, I honed my skills through “straight photography,” drawing inspiration from masters like Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. I focused on black and white darkroom processes for portraiture, still life, and landscapes. But it was the dream-like creations of Jerry Uelsmann at the University of Florida that pulled me toward a more imaginative path.

Today, my work centers on fine art photography, beginning with a captured image and evolving into fine art through digital manipulations.

I am guided by a love for travel and the thrill of new experiences. I search for beautifully lit scenes with layers—front, middle, and back—enhanced by dramatic lighting and bold colors. Light and shadow are my paintbrushes, aiming to stir romance, spark insight, and inspire joy in those who view my work.
