BIOGRAPHY
Márti M. Kiss (b. 1988, Dunajská Streda, Slovakia) is Hungarian painter and art teacher based in Slovakia. Between 2009 – 2014 student of the Faculty of Education of the Comenius University in Bratislava, at the Art Education Department. Graduated with honour. She is scholarship holder of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and recipient of the Barcsay Prize (emerging artists category).
The foundation of her artistic work is authenticity, from which a strongly pictorial language emerges. Characterized by restrained yet dynamic brushwork, her compositions maintain a balanced relationship between colour and subject matter. Kiss does not idealize or stylize her environment; she paints the reality she knows—directly, sincerely, and with contemporary sensitivity. Her expressive, almost raw painterly language forms a distinctive artistic signature. For her, painting represents an additional sense through which she perceives and processes the world. She is concerned with the landscape and people of the region – with her characteristic verve and energy, she shows us the everyday life of the people who live here in its reality, with unusual openness, but also with undisguised love and admiration. The rural relationship with village life and the countryside is also reinforced by the use of pigments and organic materials – mostly mud. In her monumental canvases, painted with dynamic and highly energetic gestures, the vastness of the countryside of Csallóköz is revealed, as if this is the only place where the landscape meets the sky.

STATEMENT
I’m artist with roots in the Csallóköz region, currently living and creating as a painter and art teacher in Csallóköz. In my own environment, in the constant environment of my childhood and adulthood, usually with the mud under my feet, I try to paint what is there. By this I mean that my art strives primarily for authenticity. The material is meant to express a return to basics. In recent years, I have strived to minimize the use of synthetic materials as much as possible, therefore, I use animal-based waxes as binders, experiment with pigments instead of acrylic, and use oil paint as a final layer on my paintings. For the purpose of harmony, the painting process always begins en plein air, and the finalization of the canvases takes place in the studio. It is not my intention to beautify what may seem raw from certain perspectives, and I do not intend to cynically approach what I find admirable. My rural background strengthens my attachment to reality. Beyond self-expression and capturing reality, the goal of my art is to give something back to the community from which I constantly draw nourishment. I want to contribute to making art an integral part of everyday life, education, and culture. My aim is for my artistic perspective to reach an audience that may not necessarily have access to the professional institutions of the art scene through my artworks. One of my endeavors is to create large-scale mural paintings depicting Csallóköz nature in the marginal locations of Csallóköz villages.
