BIOGRAPHY
Julia Kohane is a New York City-based collage artist whose hybrid practice combines analog and digital processes. Using found imagery alongside her own photographs, she prints and hand-cuts each element before assembling physical collages, which are then scanned and digitally refined before being presented as limited-edition archival prints on aluminum. Her work explores the collapse of linear time through surreal environments where scale shifts and boundaries of time and place dissolve. Fragmentation and reassembly are central to her practice, as figures move through shifting landscapes and architecture. Rooted in experiences of displacement and resettlement, her work considers vulnerability, resilience, and how experience and emotion shape our sense of place and belonging.

STATEMENT
My work examines the tension between internal states and external forces within imagined worlds that function as both psychological and physical spaces. Time and place shift, familiar forms become unfamiliar, and figures exist in states of transition, while alienation and collective unease emerge. I resist fixed narratives, allowing meaning to remain fluid and open to multiple interpretations.
