BIOGRAPHY

Izim Cetindag is a British-born, Turkish abstract artist based in Geneva, Switzerland. She completed her education in Turkey and has nurtured a passion for art since the age of seven, attending drawing courses throughout her early years.

In 2003, she relocated to Geneva, where she began to focus more deeply on her artistic practice. She further developed her painting through formal training at art institutions in Geneva, where she studied for four years.

Her abstract work explores both landscapes and figurative compositions. Her figurative pieces are intuitive and spontaneous, often beginning with color and evolving through the interplay of light, tones, and shades. These works express emotion and reflect the complexity of human relationships. In contrast, her abstract landscapes are not direct representations of the natural world, but rather personal interpretations—capturing how she perceives and experiences a landscape through her own lens.

Alongside her abstract work, Izim is committed to supporting animal welfare. In March 2021, she launched “Painting to Rescue,” an initiative dedicated to raising funds for PIT (Pets in Turkey), a non-profit organization that cares for stray animals in Turkey. Through this project, she creates commissioned portraits of dogs and cats, with all proceeds donated to the organization. To date, she has completed 23 portraits in support of this cause.

STATEMENT

My art is a colorful expression of my inner world and my evolving perceptions of nature, which, like my dreams, are constantly shifting and transforming. Through color, I bring these impressions together to create a sense of harmony—my way of communicating a feeling that is both personal and universal.

I approach each painting as a mysterious journey, full of surprises and unexpected discoveries. I am inspired by the unfolding process itself—the moment when pastel and vibrant colors meet and begin to form a visual harmony. There is a sense of excitement in not fully knowing the outcome, and I remain impatient and curious to see where the journey leads to.

Texture plays an important role in my work. By using materials such as sand and acrylic, I create depth and movement, giving the surface a more natural and tactile quality that engages more than just the sense of sight.
Painting figurative forms is another emotional journey for me. Each figure carries a unique presence and story, and through my work, I seek to give them life and a voice. At the same time, I invite the viewer to connect with these figures in their own way, bringing forward their own emotions and experiences. Ultimately, my art is not only about what is seen or felt, but about inviting the viewer into their own colorful journey—a path toward a personal sense of harmony and discovery.
