BIOGRAPHY

Isabel Breininger’s artistic practice explores the tension between abstraction and figuration, creating visual experiences where color becomes narrative. Working from her base in Mödling, Austria, where she was born in 1973, Breininger builds layered compositions through bold, gestural brushwork and an intensely chromatic palette.

Her paintings invite prolonged viewing. What appears abstract at first glance reveals figurative elements upon closer inspection, and vice versa. This deliberate ambiguity creates space for individual interpretation.

Beyond her studio practice, Breininger founded the “Malsalon” in 2024, a creative space fostering dialogue between artists and audiences. This commitment to community engagement reflects her belief that art gains meaning through connection, conversation, and shared experience.

STATEMENT

My paintings complete themselves through your gaze, not through my explanation.

I work between abstraction and figuration, creating visual spaces that invite discovery rather than instruction. Art should speak for itself—what you find there is yours to claim.

The dialogue begins where my brush stops, and that’s exactly how art should be.
