BIOGRAPHY

ESTEVE PRAT PAZ “E. Prat Paz”, was born in Castellar del Vallès in 1959. As a child he received drawing and painting classes from two painters from his hometown, Valls Arenys and Gubern until his growing interest in art pushed him to undertake university studies in the career of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in the specialty of painting in 1983; university that he returned to years later to pursue DEA studies and later a PhD that ended with the qualification of Excellent (cum laude) http://hdl.handle.net/2445/68319
After finishing his degree, he alternated Drawing classes in High School where he obtained a Drawing Chair and later in the Artistic Baccalaureate, with another facet, that of a painter and also with the exhibition facet that began in his youth, at the end of the 1990s. 70’s.
He has a long professional career. He has worked in series and has painted different artistic genres, “still life’s, landscape, portrait, abstraction and figure. He has worked in small, medium and large format. He has experimented with different techniques of graphic plastic expression, oil painting, acrylic painting, “gold leaf” infographics, mixed techniques, aerosols, etc. on different supports, canvas, wood, cardboard, paper, etc.
His exploration of landscape, portraiture or abstraction is based on balanced compositions, but with a spontaneous sensation, in a marked trace that leaves the artist’s line latent in different textures and unfinished intentions. The search for the harmony of the elements is entertained by the intervened void of dense colour, playing with the rhythms of the volumes so that the result exudes freshness. The ranges are different, there is no global unifying range of all of his work, but rather each one has a unique approach and challenge basically in terms of colour treatment and composition. The final search is the overall quality of the work.
His projects compile a heterogeneous style and a constant search for motifs that have forged the eclecticism of his artistic personality. Whether he moves in the figurative field or that of abstraction, in the landscape or in the figure, his works seek subtlety and sensitivity; he uses a wide colour palette with colours ranging from vibrant to delicate shades. He has always followed the pictorial principle of painting, which has motivated him. He remains fascinated by the search for a new theme, to later translate it into work.
He has held different painting exhibitions, and has won several prizes for his work, which is found in various private collections in different countries such as Spain, France, Argentina and the US, and in estates such as the Banco Sabadell Art Fund, the Agaete Museum (Gran Canaria), Castellar del Vallès City Council Art Fund.
His latest series have as their central theme the human figure treated with various plastic and compositional treatments.

STATEMENT

The paintings in this exhibition are part of a Human Figure series. After having worked and painted for a long time on the subject of landscape, I have been working on the human figure for years from different perspectives through different series in which it has been treated from figuration to practically abstraction, going through the fragmentation of the form, stamping, bas-relief…
The working process of the paintings in this exhibition consists of capturing a whole series of postures and positions that the human body develops in multiple facets of everyday life. Coping with different expressions and movements. To grasp the different rhythms, it produces in dynamic or more static postures, in the complexity and diversity of these and in the multiple expressions that develop on a day-to-day basis. Poses that perhaps depart from classic and conventional ways, to approach and reflect different fragments of today’s life.
It is about drawing a balanced composition in terms of proportions and positions within the work, so that it gives rhythm and movement to the same rhythm and internal movement of the figure.
Once the work is drawn, the color is applied with acrylic paint, sometimes very diluted watercolor, sometimes thickened so that it covers the surface where it is applied. Brushstrokes can be thin, soft and delicate, or very thick and energetic.
I am interested in the appearance of different textures that give quality to the work.
The paintings in this series are figurative and the subject is the human figure. Starting from a real model, sometimes with computer graphics work, different compositions and framings are made in which one or more figures appear in different postures until they find the most suitable one to shape plastically.
In this case, the portrait has not been painted in a reliable way since the physiognomy of the figures does not represent excessive interest but rather the expression they convey.
Informal anatomical postures, diverse moods and the power of pictorial impression stand out. The ability to observe the everyday allowing us to capture the interest that human emotions arouse in our perception.
My paintings allow me to travel to a world of sophistication and beauty, in fact it is the world I share with the viewer, a world where reality exists and, at the same time, invites to visit a new parallel inspiring reality.
