BIOGRAPHY

Born in Belgium. I quickly developed a deep interest in music and painting (my father was a painter), and later on in photography, but also in physics and computer sciences. I first obtained a degree in computer science at the University of Liège, in Belgium, worked in different research laboratories, in Belgium, and abroad, then moved to the industry. During these years, I discovered that my creativity was very often stimulated by the exploration of the boundaries between fields. Besides my interest in photography and painting, I also studied musical harmony and composition. After fruitful professional years, I had the chance to be able to start a second life and passionately devote myself to photography.

Exploring the boundaries between fields is one of my main sources of inspiration. It became a common thread in the most of my series, not because the borders separate, but on the contrary because they are the place where the differences coexist. I assemble opposites, dim light emerges from deep darkness, order emerges from chaos, blur enlarges sharpness, shadows take on color, abstraction enlarges reality. Multiple exposures (in the camera) when shooting and the use of homemade filters that distort light and lines are the basis of my technique. By exploring the borders between photography and painting, I superimpose on the same image different moments, foreign tones, … I introduce a certain confusion, which opens the door to the perception of other realities.

STATEMENT

My work diverts photography from its specificity, the capture of the moment. I express feelings without freezing the impression of the moment by exposing certain forms of ambiguity, instability and dynamics in the picture. I reject a fixed monocular vision, while our eyes are in perpetual motion, while reality is a permanent construction of sensations.
The exploration of the boundaries between domains is one of my main sources of inspiration, not because the borders separate, but on the contrary because they are the place where differences coexist.
