BIOGRAPHY

Abbi Custis is a self taught contemporary artist whose practice has evolved through more than a decade of experimentation and creative exploration. Based on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, she is known for an unconventional approach to abstraction, often abandoning traditional brushes in favor of found tools, her hands, layered paint, and unexpected materials. Her work ranges from intimate original paintings to large scale commissions and installations, with a practice increasingly informed by neuroaesthetics and the relationship between art, environment, and human perception.

I am interested in what happens when we loosen our grip on knowing. My work lives between impulse and intention, stillness and movement, the internal and external. Art is wordless, yet somehow gives meaning to what is often too difficult to name, allowing the process to reveal something deeply human.
