BIOGRAPHY

I love life. I perceive all its parts, nature as a perfect inspiration, people, emotions, feelings, stories, relationships, fragments, insignificance, light, sound and everything else. And from all impressions I compose an image, a shape.
I am also enriched by all forms of art that humanity has offered us in its history and present. Literature, poetry, music, architecture and especially film, which I think has a common element of the third dimension with sculpture.
In my work, the most important thing for me is contact with the material. Just the two of us. Interplay and search. Matter and withdrawal. Interaction. Joy. To relieve the stone of its heaviness. I like it when the stone resists when it is not easy. To balance the masses. Lost drawing, line and point.
A complete shape without unnecessary things. Precise geometry and soft shape. Belonging. Awareness of connections.

CV

Petr Horák
He was born on 7.12.2974 in Hodonín. In the years 1989 – 1992 he trained as a stone sculptor in Lipnice nad Sázavou. He is a natural-born sculptor. He did not undergo any academic art training and came to sculpture somehow from the center of the field, directly from stonemasonry practice. After all, just as it was done in the Baroque era, when idea and faith were very close and art was their great and indispensable partner.
His free sculptural work was initially formed mainly in the lessons of representatives of modern art, but an important impulse was also the work of the Master of Czech Baroque Matyáš Braun.
The first sculptures, in which his own creative mentality is already reflected to a certain extent, were created from the mid-nineties (Tree of Life 1995). Important from the point of view of the development of the author’s work was his participation in the sculpture symposia in Miotice (2003, 2004, 2010, 2011). Cooperation with leading artists within their framework (René Hábl, Radim Hanke, Lubomír Jarcovják) provided him with important stimuli and support in his own artistic orientation, especially in the beginning.
His sculptures from the sculpture symposia are permanently placed in public space. Also crucial for him was his participation in the international symposium in Targu-Jiu, Romania, in which he participated as the first Czech artist.
He exhibited in many solo and joint exhibitions. His work is represented in private and public collections.

STATEMENT

Mainly, I feel contact. The strike has movement and sound. It is direct. I feel like I am part of the material that has been here for milions of years and now I am here with it. Sometimes it also proves to me that I am working with something real and reassures me that I am here.
