BIOGRAPHY

I am Patrícia Belo, a Brazilian artist and designer based in Berlin, working under the name Midnight Castanhas. My practice translates inner landscapes shaped by displacement, ancestry, and introspection. After moving to Germany, I turned to art and poetry to navigate solitude and reconnect with myself. This journey led me to explore my roots through African traditions and Indigenous Brazilian cosmologies, engaging with unseen dimensions of identity. Working across painting and writing, I explore duality, vulnerability, and transformation, often through black, white, and subtle accents of color. My work invites reflection and offers an alchemical space where pain can be transformed into meaning.

CV

I began my artistic practice in 2025, and in the same year I was invited to exhibit at the Venice Art Fair (Italy), where I presented my painting The Twins. Alongside my art practice, I have an established career in design, recognized with international awards including Cannes Lions and Latin American design awards.

STATEMENT

Midnight Castanhas is an invitation to encounter and embrace our shadows. My work translates inner landscapes shaped by melancholy, displacement, and ancestrality into visual and poetic forms. I believe in the importance of turning toward the shadow, of facing it without fear, as a path to deeper self-awareness. Through painting and writing, I explore vulnerability, duality, and ancestral memory, creating spaces where pain is not silenced but transformed into a quiet force of becoming.
