BIOGRAPHY
Marina Yakimova is a Ukrainian artist and nomad, currently based in Prague.
She trained as a graphic designer and spent six years in corporate design before leaving to work on her own terms. Years of experimenting followed, across Georgia and then Bali, finally leading her to ink.
That was where everything clicked, turning her toward her inner world and her subconscious.
Ink was the first medium that would not do as it was told.
Everything before it had been a matter of control.
She places each bloom with intention and then lets the water carry it,
and what arrives is never quite what she pictured.
The work she makes now is observational rather than declarative.
It holds a state of mind without naming it.
Forms are left open, nothing closed off into a single meaning,
so what a viewer brings to it stays part of it.

Some artists begin with an idea. I begin with observation and make space for the work to become what it wants to be, while staying fully involved in the process. A mark can lead me somewhere unexpected, and one decision can start another. I let people experience my art from their own perspective, through observation, so different things can surface before
