STATEMENT

I, Gabriela Simionato, am an artist and ceramicist born in Campinas and currently based in Salvador, Bahia. My origins profoundly shape my work, which seeks to explore the intersections of local culture and urgent social issues. Through ceramics, I use clay as a material that symbolizes vibrant life and connection to the earth. My goal is to create pieces that not only reflect memories, resistance, and transformation but also evoke deep emotions. I want the audience, when interacting with my pieces, to see beyond what we often choose to hide. I aim to echo the pain and reality of a country where children are seen with guns instead of being in school or playing. It is an invitation to confront the difficulty of facing these truths so that together we can find hope and change.
Each piece is a testament to the strength of the stories we carry, a reminder of the importance of giving voice to the realities around us and connecting with what truly matters.
