BIOGRAPHY

Kama Balluchi is a South African contemporary artist whose work explores texture, emotion and the relationship between nature and human experience. Through abstract painting and mixed media, Balluchi creates layered compositions that reflect themes of love, resilience, identity and unity.

Working across oil, acrylic, resin and earth-based materials, Balluchi brings an intuitive approach to colour and surface. Natural ingredients—including earth pigments, charcoal, coffee and turmeric—feature within the artist’s earth-inspired practice, creating tactile works that invite closer observation. Influenced by the principles of wabi-sabi, these pieces embrace irregularity, imperfection and the quiet beauty of organic forms.

Beyond painting, Balluchi’s creative vision extends into Kama Privé Collections, exploring the meeting point of fine art, collectible couture and wearable expression. Across these disciplines, the artist’s focus remains on individuality, craftsmanship and emotional connection.

Each creation invites a personal encounter—a space to discover meaning through colour, material and texture.

CV

In 2025, Balluchi exhibited through GALERIA AZUR Miami, sharing a distinctive South African artistic perspective with an international audience.

Kama Balluchi comes from a creatively gifted family, with her father, brothers and sisters sharing talents across music and the visual arts. Growing up surrounded by artistic expression helped nurture her imagination and connection to creativity.

A self-taught artist, she has developed her practice through independent experimentation and one-on-one tutorials with a fine artist who graduated first in her class at one of the world’s leading art schools. These influences have helped shape her distinctive artistic voice and deepen her understanding of colour, composition and texture.

STATEMENT

My art is an exploration of emotion, memory and our connection to the natural world. Through abstraction, I give colour, texture and movement the freedom to express what words sometimes cannot—love, resilience, vulnerability and belonging.

I come from a family rich in musical and artistic talent, where creativity was part of everyday life. As a self-taught artist, I have developed my practice through experimentation, observation and one-on-one guidance. These experiences have encouraged me to trust my intuition while continually exploring new materials and techniques.

Working with oil, acrylic, resin and natural ingredients such as earth pigments, charcoal, coffee and turmeric, I build surfaces that carry traces of their making. I am drawn to the principles of wabi-sabi: the beauty of imperfection, the passage of time and the character of organic forms.

Each work begins with a feeling and evolves through the interaction between material and gesture. I invite viewers to look closely, form their own associations and discover something of themselves within the layers.
