BIOGRAPHY

Frida Aspani (b. 1997) is a Mexican photographer now based in Vancouver, BC. Born and raised in Mexico City, she always found the city’s pace too chaotic, fueling a deep-rooted desire to live and work in direct contact with nature. After earning her degree in Communication and working in event production, she decided to fully pursue photography, a choice that eventually led her to move to British Columbia. Since 2022, she has specialized in wildlife, documenting species like the Grizzly bears of the Khutzeymateen and the Glass Frog in Veracruz for National Geographic. Frida focuses on capturing the connection between humans and the wild through an ethical lens, using her production experience to navigate the logistics of remote environments.

STATEMENT

My photographs begin long before the moment they are taken. Each image carries the path that led to it: the walks, the hours of waiting, and the quiet attention required to witness wildlife without disturbing it. I let the environment set the rhythm, allowing the photograph to appear rather than forcing it.

I am less interested in documenting a scene and more in capturing the feeling of being there. Through my work, I want to remind people that we are not the only ones on this planet. By observing how animals interact, we realize that we are not as distant from them as we may seem. Each photograph is a trace of that connection: a moment lived, not constructed.
