BIOGRAPHY

Elena Lo Giudice (born 1981) is an Italian visual artist. Born in Hong Kong, she spent the first five years of her life there before moving to Singapore, where she lived for another five years. At the age of ten, she relocated with her family to Umbria, Italy, where she encountered a very different way of life. After nearly two decades in Italy, she moved to the Netherlands and took an extended break from exhibiting in order to focus on raising her child. In 2017, she returned to Singapore, where she currently lives and continues her artistic practice. Her multicultural background is a recurring influence throughout her work.

STATEMENT

Elena Lo Giudice is an Italian visual artist based in Singapore, recognized for work that explores memory, identity, and cultural hybridity through intimate, tactile imagery. Born in Hong Kong and raised across Asia, she has retained strong Italian roots that coexist and intertwine with her experiences abroad. This dual belonging is not merely biographical, but a driving force within her work, where different worlds remain in constant osmosis.
Her practice unfolds through drawing, painting, photography and collage, often incorporating delicate materials such as Japanese washi paper. The surface becomes a terrain of accumulation and quiet transformation: cutting, layering, and reassembling are not merely techniques, but gestures of care that preserve fragments of lived experience without insisting on closure. In this way, Lo Giudice’s work treats vulnerability as a form of quiet strength, and intimacy as a reflective space rather than confession. Her work explores the emotional geography of displacement, how memory, language, and cultural inheritance shape the self in subtle, persistent ways.
Her work has been presented in international solo and group exhibitions and is included in private collections worldwide. She continues to develop a practice that embraces the unstable, the tender, and the unresolved, where meaning is never fully settled, and always in becoming.
