BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1974, living and working in Belgium, Europe, Christopher Denys has been educated in Architecture, Contemporary Visual Arts, Natural Medecine and Psychoanalytics.
In 2011 he began a series of small drawings that has expanded ever since: images from nocturnal dreams and observations in nature. Fueled by his studies in arts, naturopathy and dream analysis, his visual work focuses on the dynamic structure of dreams as a potential framework for understanding our human nature and the subconscious.
He works with materials he has collected during endless wanderings across his country, searching for abandoned places such as old factories and farms, and uses a delicate type of paper he has gathered during his travels for his drawings. Architectural projects, installation work and sculptures always develop from his Blue-hour-drawings since 2011.
Since the drawings are too delicate to be exposed to natural light—as this would cause them to fade—offering prints from his drawings was the ideal solution given their fragility. Christopher offers both limited and open editions.

STATEMENT

After years of exploring visual media such as photography, film, sculpture, and installations, Christopher has finally found his primary medium: drawing. Since 2011, he has limited himself to a blue ballpoint pen and fragile paper, using them to explore the dynamics of dreams and the subconscious.

“In an attempt to observe life and its natural ways of development in an unbiased way, dreams are an inexhaustible source of human self-understanding.”
