BIOGRAPHY

Ben Plaumann is a self-taught painter from Berlin, now living and working in Wittbek in northern Germany. His path led through eastern and northern Germany, with stops in the south and in the USA – a life of setbacks and fresh starts that shapes both his resilience and his art. Working with acrylic and palette knife, he builds thick, layered impasto surfaces in which gold, silver and warm neutrals evoke weathered, almost antique textures. Black-and-white and boldly coloured works form a deliberate counterpoint. Each painting bears his monogram: a mirrored B in gold and a P in silver, sharing a single stem.

STATEMENT

I paint to find balance between opposites: dark and light, order and impulse, the polished and the worn. With palette knife and thick acrylic, I build surfaces that catch the light differently throughout the day. Classical music and jazz guide the process. I want my paintings to slow people down and invite them to look closer.
