BIOGRAPHY
Canadian citizen born in Baghdad, Ashtar’s artistic journey has been shaped by a life lived between Switzerland, Canada, and Jordan. Influenced by diverse cultures and artistic traditions, her work reflects a deeply personal exploration of memory, identity, and emotional presence.
Originally trained in music, Ashtar developed an early sensitivity to rhythm, harmony, and expression—qualities that continue to resonate throughout her paintings. Her abstract compositions are distinguished by a refined command of color, movement, and layered texture, creating quiet visual narratives that invite contemplation and emotional connection.
Through her practice, Ashtar creates spaces where cultures meet, memories breathe, and emotions whisper.

STATEMENT
My work explores the tension between structure and emotion — two forces that have shaped my life across disciplines. With formal training in music and ballet, an education in control and systems engineering, and years of business leadership, I bring a rare synthesis of precision and intuition to the canvas.
My paintings are built through layered compositions, bold color relationships, and gestural mark-making. Each piece is a conversation between control and release, rhythm and improvisation. After a long multidisciplinary career, my focus return to painting in 2024 carries the depth of lived experience — every canvas reflects a mature, personal vision.
