ARTSPER

BIOGRAPHY

Alexis’ art brings nature from the outside in. He prioritizes preserving the environment in its natural state and uses a combination of raw and sustainable materials when making art.
Alexis is an artist and a sober addict in recovery. Addiction has shaped his vantage point and plays a major role in his need to create.
Making art has saved his life. As an introvert and creative type, his work is how he best articulates his life experiences.
In addition to being an artist, he is a surfer, climber and yoga practitioner. As a young adult, he lived out of his truck while working as a climbing guide in the US and abroad. He learned wood and metal work in his 20’s while working for designer and artist, Ivan Hill. This led him from craftsmanship into artistry.
He currently resides in Nosara, Costa Rica with his wife and two children. Alexis sits on the board for Wild Arizona and is actively involved in several environmental non-profits and foundations.

STATEMENT

My art is compilation of my past experience and perspective on both myself and how I see the world. Because I have spent most of my life exploring the outdoors and my work mirrors this.

My most recent paintings combine a sculptural aspect through my use of wood and plaster inlay. My background in carpentry, design and fabrication are part and parcel to my style of art. I have an obsessive need to create, which stems from my journey as a recovering addict. Art is my vehicle to pour my creative energy into.
