The Powder Puff Tutu is a circular work created in oil and mixed media, built around the image of a ballet tutu rendered through layers of texture, expressive brushwork, splashes, and flowing drips of paint.<\/p>\n
This piece holds a special place in the artist\u2019s trajectory as the first work in the Ballet Wardrobes series. Its exploration of the tutu as both garment and symbol became the starting point for a broader body of work centered on movement, femininity, structure, and grace.<\/p>\n
The piece later became an important source of inspiration for the artist\u2019s collaboration with Uriarte Talavera, where elements from this series were translated into hand-painted Talavera pieces created for the Permanent Collection of the Rosewood Hotel Puebla. In this way, the visual language first developed in The Powder Puff Tutu moved beyond the canvas and into a completely different material tradition.<\/p>\n
Set against a deep blue background, the white tutu appears almost weightless, expanding outward from the center like a soft cloud or powder puff. Its delicate appearance contrasts with the physical strength, discipline, precision, and repetition that lie behind the world of ballet.<\/p>\n
The work explores the duality between fragility and strength, softness and control, movement and stillness. The textured surface gives the garment a sculptural presence, while the drips and spontaneous marks introduce movement and freedom into an image traditionally associated with elegance and precision.<\/p>\n
The title, The Powder Puff Tutu, reflects the lightness and almost tactile softness of the piece.
