Deep Forces is an immersive abstract watercolor in which crimson, magenta and burgundy dissolve into near-black depths, as if the surface were breathing. Two dark vertical presences rise on either side of a luminous central field, creating a threshold the eye is drawn toward and held by. Cool violet-blue passages at the corners offset the heat of the red and give the composition its tension.

Working wet-in-wet, Carbeli lets pigment bleed, pool and recede, so that the grain of the paper becomes part of the image, almost like skin. The result is a work of unusual density for the medium: contemplative, bodily and quietly intense.

Part of Carbeli's visual cosmogony, an ongoing exploration of transcendence, spiritual depth and the transmutation of emotion into color, Deep Forces invites sustained looking rather than quick reading. It reveals new layers of tone as light shifts through the day.

[140,372
