"FREE AFTER COLLAPSE"<\/p>\n
\nThe little beast hits the road and plays the saxophone while the white horses flee a world in turmoil.<\/p>\n
The horses seem to emerge from the scene and escape from it. They are nervous, disjointed, almost ghostly. They belong to the realm of flight, instinct, catastrophe.<\/p>\n
Between catastrophe and euphoria, the work questions the freedom that might emerge if our usual structures were to collapse. Paint, collage and writing overlap on a reclaimed support \u2014 once again, the back of a chocolate bar cardboard package!<\/p>\n
The painting becomes a kind of philosophical dilemma about catastrophe.<\/p>\n
Freedom can be euphoric here, absurd, desperate, or monstrous.<\/p>\n
The little beast, wearing a Napoleon hat, drives, plays the sax, makes a hell of a noise, and seems almost to be celebrating the whole situation.<\/p>\n
If there is nothing left, no more world!!
\nThen what!?
\nLet's party… Whatever!!<\/p>\n
The horses, on the other hand, could be the conscience of the whole thing \u2014 immaculate in their whiteness.<\/p>\n
After the collapse, we are free to choose\u2026 either we party until the very end of the very end, or we are brave enough \u2014 although, at first glance, it looks painful as hell \u2014 to get to work rebuilding.
\nThe artwork itself follows the path of collapse: lines, scratches, bodies being crossed through; we can see the skeleton of the little beast, we can see through the car. There is a real sense of chaos, and everything follows that same path, that disintegration.<\/p>\n
The collapse is in the making of the image itself.<\/p>\n
The inscriptions are literally caught, drowned and swallowed up in the chaos.<\/p>\n
Letters, fragments \u2014 language itself seems to have suffered the collapse.<\/p>\n
The chocolate cardboard was actually a brainstorming sheet to begin with!!<\/p>\n
"So\u2026 which option did I choose?!"
\nHahaha!<\/p>\n
In that sense, the cardboard takes on a political dimension.<\/p>\n
Cardboard packaging is a consumer product. We are consumer products too. And, like everything we consume, at some point there is a collapse\u2026 an \u201cuse-by date.\u201d<\/p>\n
We have to decide whether to throw it away \u2014 or remake it, recycle it.<\/p>\n
Chaos is inscribed into the very making of the image.<\/p>\n
The style is Neo-Expressionist.<\/p>\n
The little beast has something Punk about it. It is strange:<\/p>\n
joyful in an unsettling way.<\/p>\n
We seem to be looking at a post-apocalyptic scene.<\/p>\n
But we don't really know.<\/p>\n
The city is still there. The catastrophe may not be over.<\/p>\n
The car is a vehicle, a machine, an automobile \u2014 but perhaps also a vehicle from between worlds.<\/p>\n
