Beside him, a young woman with an elongated, almost lunar face slightly turns her gaze away. Between them, something seems to have been suspended: an interrupted conversation, perhaps a disagreement, or simply that strange distance that can exist between two people who are nevertheless together.

Above them, an enormous, yellow, almost electric moon takes over the scene. It is not merely an astronomical object: it becomes a presence. It illuminates as much as it disturbs, transforming the setting into a mental space where windows, furniture and fragments of architecture seem to merge into one another.

A small sign reading “Café de Paris” is enough to shift the scene into the imaginary world of Parisian bohemia: Montmartre, artists’ cafés, poets with no fixed address, wandering painters, and nights when one can no longer quite tell whether one is living, dreaming, or remembering.

The treatment of the faces and bodies deliberately enters into dialogue with Amedeo Modigliani: elongated figures, silent faces, eyes that seem to look without truly seeing. Yet here, this reference is translated into a more raw and contemporary materiality. Deep blacks confront whites and flashes of colour; line, ink, chalk and acrylic overlap, contradict one another, and allow the accidents and traces of the original support to remain visible.

The work was born from a reclaimed chocolate packaging carton, whose material and previous traces become an integral part of the painting. The faithful industrial cardboard — the original packaging, bearing the inscription “Dark, touch of salt” on the reverse, together with the signature — becomes, in this context, something entirely different: a banal material destined to be thrown away, transformed here into the setting for a small story of vagabonds.

In any case… something is happening !

The moon is enormous, almost aggressive, electric.
The tension is palpable, and emotion becomes mixed with interrogation.

Is it a romantic moon — or the last light of a world collapsing?

  – A painting constructed like a drawing, and a drawing that ultimately becomes a painting.
Mixed media on reclaimed packaging cardboard — acrylic, chalk, India ink, GFKP Japan pencil, BIC, Posca and mixed techniques — 30 × 25 cm.

[24
