Inspired by the simple black baskets commonly found under office desks, the sculpture takes an ordinary and often overlooked object and gives it an entirely different role: instead of being hidden away, it becomes something to proudly display in a living room beside a beautiful couch or within a carefully curate and considered interior.
\nThe initial idea for the work came from imagining what we (viewers) might be find inside such a baskets. Magazines for example that can quickly become obsolete, filled with information, trends and opinions that lose their relevance over time. They can therefore become a form of trash, not necessarily because they are physically unwanted, but because their content has become outdated. Another possibility was to place a bouquet of flowers inside the basket. Once picked flowers inevitably begin to die and eventually become waste, yet they are often considered beautiful precisely because of the way we choose to display them.
\nThis contrast between trash and beauty is at the heart of the sculpture. By placing something considered disposable inside an object designed to contain waste, the work creates a playful contradiction that the trash is no longer something to hide but something worth looking at. The familiar office wastebasket is transformed into an atypical vase, blurring the boundary between what is considered valuable and what is considered insignificant.
\nThe Basket is therefore both a humorous decoration and a small joke about the way we assign value to objects. A wastebasket is usually associated with something unimportant, something that belongs underneath a desk and out of sight. Here the piece itself however it becomes sophisticated, sculptural and worthy of attention. The work invites the viewer to reconsider why certain objects are displayed and celebrated while others are deliberately hidden.
\nThe sculpture is made from clay using hand building techniques and finished with a black matte glaze. The simplicity of the black surface reinforces its connection to the familiar office wastebasket while allowing the object itself and its absurd transformation, to become the focus.
\nAt last I would like to make a special thanks to my dear friend Varvara Zinchenko for taking the photographs of my sculptures.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Cecilia Pim<\/a>","protected":false},"author":3241,"featured_media":408225,"template":"","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"o","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":""},"product_cat":[24,495],"product_tag":[],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/galeriaazur.art\/esp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product\/408223"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/galeriaazur.art\/esp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/galeriaazur.art\/esp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/product"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/galeriaazur.art\/esp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3241"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/galeriaazur.art\/esp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/408225"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/galeriaazur.art\/esp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=408223"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"product_cat","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/galeriaazur.art\/esp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_cat?post=408223"},{"taxonomy":"product_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/galeriaazur.art\/esp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_tag?post=408223"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
