After exploring the form twice before, I returned to the sponge in ceramic allowing it to become more volumetric, textured and surreal. The bubbles, exaggerated volume and rough surfaces transformed an ordinary household object into something dreamlike, somewhere between a sponge a tiny soap bubble about to burst.<br \/>\nHandbuilt using the hollowing-out technique the sculpture was then hand-painted and roughly glazed, deliberately creating an uneven, textured and rough surface. The imperfections and irregularities of the finish reinforce the sense of an imagined almost living sponge rather than a precise reproduction of an everyday object.<br \/>\nThis work represents a return to the beginning of my sculptural practice but also a moment of finding my own visual language and voice.
