\u200bKhachaturian\u2019s Masquerade Waltz embraces an exotic, passionate, and minor-key tragedy that entirely departs from the traditional, elegant waltz.
\n\u200bIn this work, I immersed myself in “translating color itself into music,” rather than focusing on harmonic structures. A deep brown background, and the silhouette of a muted peach signature that refuses to sink into the backdrop, asserting its own presence. This profound and heavy ensemble of tones is the very visualization of Khachaturian\u2019s music.
\n\u200bWhile the desperate passion of the Romantic era shown by Rachmaninoff is an explosion of emotion, Khachaturian\u2019s intensity is closer to a tense tightrope walk, striving not to lose elegance within the strict 3\/4 rhythm of a waltz.
\n\u200bOver countless layers of lines, I drew the free melody of the waltz across the canvas using ash green and peach tones, as if performing a single, passionate rendition. Amidst these dynamic lines sweeping and swirling as if dancing, the Lego blocks at the bottom serve as the minimal spine that sustains this waltz.
\n\u200bLike the stage of a masquerade\u2014at once most splendid yet most secret\u2014a world where structured boundaries and untamed lines coexist.
