i was raised to believe that curiousity was a strength

my practice began a solitary act of witnessing and the sacred act of showing up.<\/p>\n
early motherhood moved through confusion and that combination of grief and grace.
\nto be romantic, complicated, brilliant, beautiful, and hilarious.<\/p>\n
black girls like me – saw ourselves in characters who loved boldly
\nand in reaction, reflection or response
\nher joy, peace, and inner beauty remain in tact;
\nlovingly cultivated communal effort required to create and sustain such a world.<\/p>\n
i saw in her a reflection of what it means to take up space boldly,
\nto live fully,
\nand to love our people unapologetically.<\/p>\n
i allowed myself the freedom to be silly, to escape expectation, to heal through play.<\/p>\n
outside my window in brooklyn, stands a powerful trunk formed by a network of interwoven trees.
\nleading me not only through survival, but into a thriving creative life, created by the community.
