Following a transformative Grand Tour through the cultural heart of Europe\u2014with a focus on Italy\u2019s architectural and spiritual heritage\u2014 I started the 2026 period. "Venice in the Heart: Memories of its Horizon and Waters Sparkling Under the Sun" is a phenomenological record of an emotional epiphany. Captured during a prolonged stay in the "Serenissima," the work distills my profound fascination with the Venetian lagoon, where the boundary between sky, water, and history becomes blurred.
\nI saw that there are similarities with the classical veduta, but this is a Metaphysical Veduta: the classical Veduta tradition transformed in more abstract, impressionist and naif elements, that elevates the scene into the realm of the sublime imagination and emotions. The composition is anchored by a solitary figure\u2014the witness\u2014contemplating the rhythmic silhouettes of gondolas, a littel animal watching and the ethereal presence of Venetian domes. My signature is a Red Sun that acts as a metaphysical lighthouse, representing the "internal fire" of the creator projecting onto the ancient stones of the city.<\/p>\n
In this large-format watercolor, I used the unique texture of heavy-weight cotton paper to achieve a beautiful luminosity. This technique focuses on the "kiss of the sun"\u2014the exact moment where light caresses the water\u2019s surface, creating a crystalline shimmer that seems to vibrate within the paper's grain.
