On the northwest coast of Hokkaido, there is a long scenic road called the Ororon Line. Stretching 290 kilometers between Ishikari and Wakkanai\u2014the northernmost city on the island\u2014it\u2019s known for its sweeping seascapes and rows of wind turbines lining the horizon.<\/p>\n
Years ago, I drove this road on a trip to Wakkanai. I vaguely remember the day\u2014I was young, carefree, and felt an incredible sense of freedom. In the quiet town of Shosanbetsu, I came across a red torii gate standing alone on the shore, silhouetted against a glowing sunset. Part of the Toyosaki Konpira Shrine, it struck me as a hidden gem\u2014peaceful, powerful, and unforgettable.<\/p>\n
Though much has changed since then, this memory has stayed with me. That red gate brings back the feeling of that time in my life.
