Traditionally used to store wine, oil, or grain, the amphora was more than a utilitarian object: it was an emblem of sustenance, trade, and ritual. Its silhouette\u2014narrow neck, broad belly, tapering base\u2014was designed to be held, poured from, offered.<\/p>\n
Here, the body takes on that iconic form, stretched and curved into a posture that echoes the amphora\u2019s elegant utility. The torso is exaggerated, the limbs fluid, as if the figure is caught in motion or mid-melt. It holds no fixed gender, balancing muscular definition with soft, undulating contours. Masculine and feminine characteristics are woven together, forming a corporeal paradox\u2014simultaneously solid and dissolving.<\/p>\n
By merging flesh and ceramic shape, the artist speaks to the idea of the body as a sacred container: of identity, memory, longing. The amphora\u2019s historical associations with domesticity and sacrifice deepen this reading, suggesting that the human form, like the vessel, exists to be filled, emptied, broken, and restored.<\/p>\n
