In Utopian Dream II, Ramsay Allan creates a dreamscape statement about symbolism, counter-culture and surrealism. A vast psychedelic face mosaic floats in the sky, a lone figure wearing a green linen suit walks into a radiant sunset, passing a woman in a red swim suit with a parasol, and a building marked by an all-seeing eye \u2014 each element suggesting layers of deep meaning around perception, identity, and utopian ideology.<\/p>\n
Painted in oil with clean geometry and expressive colour, the work recreates elements from the 1950\u2019s, 60\u2019s and 70\u2019s. The shadows, figures, monolithic face and bold sky hint at both calmness and tension \u2014 while other symbolic motifs, such as the all-seeing-eye suggest something more dystopian in nature, whether that be real or imagined.<\/p>\n
