In these traditional portrayals, the three naked women embody limited qualities tied to seduction and the male fantasy. Raphael, for example, depicts Aglaea, symbolizing radiance, Euphrosyne, embodying joy, and Thalia, representing abundance. These figures, often devoid of character and individual identity, reflect a reductive vision of women.

In my contemporary version, I chose to reinvent these codes by highlighting feminine power through three lunar goddesses from Greek mythology: Selene, Artemis, and Hecate. Artemis, goddess of the hunt and wild nature, represents the crescent moon and a deep connection with the natural world. Selene, the personification of the full moon, symbolizes fullness and universality. Hecate, associated with witchcraft, magic, and the mysteries of the night, embodies the liminal spaces between light and darkness. Often depicted with three faces, she reflects her role as the guardian of crossroads and mystical boundaries.

The dark and mysterious landscape of the piece echoes the theme of darkness, previously explored in Tempus. Here, the goddesses appear as bearers of light, guiding through the depths and taboos of human existence. This protective light also embodies modern feminism, particularly in the face of current political upheaval.

By paying tribute to these mythological figures and the persecuted witches of history, I celebrate the courage, intelligence, and resilience of women. These qualities, often vilified, represent a revolutionary spirit and a quest for emancipation. Through The Three Graces, I reinterpret the term "witch" to transform it into a symbol of power, autonomy, and self-affirmation, recoding the classical work of the Three Graces. As Simone de Beauvoir wrote, “Women are exhausted from being considered the 'second sex.'” It is time for us to shine fully, embracing their essence and innate power.

[180,406
