Not relying on observation.  And only relating to others similar in form.  Looking for an alternative to yellow ochre, I started using paynes grey. Both unadulterated and also adding titanium white to try to make the colour light enough to fade into the background. Whilst, here, being complimented with a vertical ultramarine line, which adds some structure and power, and a  yellow ochre line which calms the whole painting down.
