Late August, captured in the glow of the evening sun, my daughters join hands and dance spontaneously after the harvest, their spirits high and joyful. This moment cherished and appreciated in it's impermanence, for it's bittersweet beauty, as fleeting as childhood, yet connected instinctively to the rural rituals of generations past. <\/p>\n
'Harvest Dance' is from a series of poetic photographs which contemplate the flux and balance of interdependent relationships: Motherhood and childhood; the sensual interplay of light and shadow; flourishing life and peaceful dormancy; chaos and harmony; the enduring and the effervescent. Intricate layering of multiple exposures, is a balancing act of control and freedom; of discipline and guidance, whilst simultaneously relinquishing all authority and throwing the odds to the winds, to chance encounters and the unexpected. I apply the principles and techniques honed with film cameras and in darkrooms to digital photography, to create imagery that is imbued with a sense of physical presence and emotion, capturing fragile, fleeting moments within timeless narratives. <\/p>\n
