Patch of Blue was inspired by the Small Studies series by quilting rock-star Gwen Marston (1936\u20132019) and her lively construction techniques\u2014in this case, repeatedly inserting narrow slices of fabric.<\/p>\n
Because the quilt was created for an all-blue challenge, fabric choices were crucial for achieving contrast and drama in a (mostly) monochromatic palette. This quilt gets both a serene, brushed-suede look from hand-dyed muslins and visual excitement from pops of polished ombr\u00e9 cotton.<\/p>\n
