I am interested in\u00a0the amalgamation of\u00a0abstraction and representation:\u00a0a liminal
\nspace encompassing a fusion of\u00a0subject disciplines.\u00a0A few years ago, I started to
\npaint plant-inspired organic shapes. Organic material\u00a0analysis and
\ninterpretation\u00a0became part of my exploration process. Simultaneous to my\u00a0use
\nof\u00a0organic\u00a0imagery as\u00a0inspiration, I began working with oil paints again. Oil paint
\nhas a different application regime and can be worked with for much longer,
\nallowing me to create more subtle gradations of colour.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, I incorporated the plant affected imagery into\u00a0my
\ncompositions\u00a0along with the\u00a0geometric structures that were the\u00a0mainstay of
\nmy\u00a0earlier\u00a0painting\u00a0direction.\u00a0My newer works extend organic forms into
\nabstracted spaces and landscapes that play with depth, lines, and layers. The
\nwork evolves during the painting\u00a0process. I am interested in creating a\u00a0push-pull
\ninteraction,\u00a0a lively\u00a0tension\u00a0between the\u00a0features\u00a0representing\u00a0spaces,\u00a0and those
\nthat\u00a0signify\u00a0shapes\u00a0as\u00a0compositional elements.<\/p>\n
Color\u00a0impacts how I integrate\u00a0organic\u00a0ideas with\u00a0abstract\u00a0shapes\u00a0on\u00a0the
\ncanvas.\u00a0During my years of studying fine art, I\u00a0engaged in
\npurposeful\u00a0colour\u00a0theory\u00a0research. My approach to color is influenced by colour
\nmasters and theorists like\u00a0Itten, Albers, Goethe and others. Colour choice I
\ngravitate to and mix before I start to paint\u00a0empower\u00a0the shapes. I work with
\nflatness and depth both in my\u00a0shape development, and
\nthe\u00a0paintings\u2019\u00a0spatial\u00a0components.\u00a0The colour-shape-space\u00a0decisions\u00a0energise\u00a0and
