BIOGRAPHY
Tontoku is an artist, teacher, wife, and mother. Having spent much of her life abroad, contemporary Japanese calligraphy is her “IKIGAI – A passion that gives value and joy to life”. When she engages in calligraphy, her mind is enveloped in tranquility, freeing her from the clamor of everyday life. Unlike artists who express agony and anger, she focuses on themes of peace, kindness, and positivity in her work.
Her pieces blend the traditional elegance of Japanese aesthetics with the international sensibilities she acquired from her time overseas. They embody humility and modesty while also showcasing boldness and passion. Tontoku aims to create impactful works that exist harmoniously within their surroundings.
Her goal is to produce art that brings joy, tranquility, and, at times, courage to those who view it.

STATEMENT
As a contemporary calligrapher, I seek to harmonize the tranquility of Japanese tradition with the dynamic energy of modern expression. My work embodies peace, kindness, and positivity, with each brushstroke reflecting my desire to bring joy and serenity to the viewer. Through my techniques, such as using Japanese Sumi Ink, Washi Paper and incorporating soap bubbles, I strive to create art that resonates with both the heart and the soul, bridging cultural divides.
