BIOGRAPHY
Sandra H. Andersen is an Icelandic creator and writer based between New York and Reykjavík. Her practice centers on hand-formed paper sculptures that explore inner landscapes, the unseen terrain shaped by desire, resilience, and identity. What may first appear as pristine topography reminiscent of her homeland reveals itself as something more intimate: a mapping of emotional wilds. Art has always been her truest language. A way of thinking, questioning, and living fully. She continues to exhibit internationally and expand her work across new mediums.

STATEMENT
My work investigates the internal geographies that shape us, the peaks and fractures formed by memory, the quiet tensions that build beneath the surface. I sculpt paper by hand, transforming a delicate material into something with presence, weight, and unexpected edge. The forms may echo Iceland’s stark landscapes, but they are not representations of place. They are portraits of the interior, impulses, vulnerabilities, instincts we rarely name.
I create to translate what can’t be spoken directly. Each fold and cut becomes a record of a feeling pushing its way outward. The work asks viewers to consider what parts of themselves are hidden, rigid, soft, or still moving. It is an invitation to navigate the wild within.
