BIOGRAPHY

While Norm has spent his life making art, painting has been the background anchor throughout his life, coming to the fore more and more often. As you delve into his abstract world, bold and bright colours, lay the foundation for his flourishing imagination.
He and his family immigrated to Canada as a child and he struggled to assimilate but found solace in carving sticks with his prized pocket knife. This sparked his life long interest in creating art and as the oldest of six, he was creating art from found objects. Highschool afforded him the opportunity to trying painting where his work was later kept and displayed by the school until it burned down the 80’s. As he ventured out on his own as a carpenter, he was sought after due to his ability to build interesting and functional landscapes. His work featured slopes and curves where others were building straight and pedestrian. He continued his functional art through renovations where he could see past the typical and basic construction, to introduce innovative use for a space. Renovating and flipping homes generated a collection of objects left behind by former owners. As many artists do, he collected and stored until inspiration struck. These found objects were then repurposed into functional art and thus began, Out of the Norm Designs.
His paintings convey a unique perspective on today’s world.
