STATEMENT
The main thrust of my work is Hard Edged Abstraction, my paintings are based on the traditions of 20th Century Minimal Abstraction. They connect with the German Bauhaus school of 1919, the Concrete Art Movement (1930’s) and the Systemic Artists (1960’s).
I use mathematics as a way of achieving compositional harmony out of a logical system of spatial calculations, using repetition and division. I am passionate about colour variance, which is the pulse of my paintings.
My paintings connect in many ways with architecture, in that the more you strip away the more exacting the balance of your composition becomes. Proportion is essential.
I aim to create new forms, planes, shapes and colour to give uncluttered, elegant, but invigorating paintings, oozing harmony and energy.
