BIOGRAPHY

Ms. Eunha Chung, Visual Communication Designer, CEO of Art in dongsan

As the eldest daughter of ceramic artist 海晴 Jungmook Jung, who dedicated his life to reproducing Korean Goryeo celadon, I grew up experiencing Korean culture and art in my daily life and admiring my parents, who interacted with various artists and shared their good influences with each other. Through my natural appreciation of diverse art from East and West and my close encounters with artists’ lives, art has become a part of my daily life.

All beings and time are always gracious.
Impressed by the order of nature, I wrote poetry as an undergraduate, and after graduating from Yonsei University and working as a high school science teacher, I went to the United States to study abroad, where I was intrigued by the intersection of science and art and dreamed of becoming a visual artist who traveled back and forth between the two. After returning to Korea in 2015 after majoring in Visual Communication Design at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Ohio, I worked on conceptual art for a few years and gradually learned about the structure and reality of the art market by planning and designing exhibition promotional materials and books as a volunteer for artists in need.

I was fascinated by the work of Bukang Yu Kim, an elderly Korean artist I met in Cincinnati when I was studying abroad in the U.S. As a Korean woman artist, I admire her passion for introducing the spirit and originality of our culture and art to the U.S. I had the pleasure of organizing and directing her solo exhibition in her homeland in 2017, which was a great success. Currently, Ms. Kim is an exclusive artist at Art in Dongsan.
As the daughter of an artist and the wife of an artist(artist Sori Choi), all of my daily and work life is comparable to the solitary path of creation, and I am doing my best to bear beautiful fruits in every encounter and given situation. Since 2018, I have been faithfully fulfilling my role as a gallerist introducing the works of domestic and international artists in three gallery spaces, while also steadily supporting the planning of public art exhibitions that give the public the experience of appreciating art close to their daily lives and discovering excellent local content. One of Art in dongsan’s representative public exhibition initiatives is the exhibition of artworks and installations that combine music and art by percussionist and artist Sori Choi, allowing the public to experience a new genre of creative artistic expression, which has been successfully held at cultural centers and art halls across the country for the past three years.

Since its opening in 2018, the gallery currently sponsors and promotes four exclusive artists, including two young artists and two mid-career and senior artists, and focuses on introducing many of Art in dongsan’s affiliated and collaborating artists to special exhibitions and art fairs in Korea and abroad, aiming to become a gallery that plays a significant role in the future growth of the Korean art market and the discovery and growth of excellent Korean artists in the global art market.

Art in dongsan is a simple name for “the beautiful world of art blooming in Dongsan-dong,” where I live, and Art in dongsan is constantly developing various cultural contents and pursuing the role of a catalyst to enhance aesthetic and creative thinking in our lives.

STATEMENT

In a certain morning of springtime when my footprints got stuck deep in the soil
That had remained frozen winter-long,
And in a summer evening when frogs got so boisterous as if they had promised to in unison,
On an autumnal afternoon embellished with the scent of a Chinese quince that,
Having matured in yellow, rolled about in a corner of my yard,
In the early winter morning when I could gaze at the Moon for long through the branches of trees made bare,

There, as usual, I anchor my mind in the incidents(time) of nature.

I recall the light of hope that led me out of the tunnel of days that had seemed endless;
I recall the outstretched shadow that comforted my heart that had scattered about in a thousand different thoughts marked by emptiness;
And I recall the voice and wind that led me on the right track as I stood hesitating at a crossroads;

I am the point in time-space when I unexpectedly met you, now by my side.
